Quality Engineer - Injection Molding
Location: Spartanburg, SC
Shift: 1st, 7AM - 3:10PM
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a growing manufacturing company specializing in plastic injection-molded components . We are seeking a hands-on Quality Engineer with experience in manufacturing and direct exposure to injection molding processes .
The ideal candidate has a strong balance of quality systems (PFMEA, Control Plans, FAI) and floor-level execution (CAPA, SPC, capability studies) , with the ability to identify and resolve molding-related defects. This role offers strong visibility, customer interaction, and long-term growth potential in a fast-paced production environment.
Required Skills & Qualifications
3-5+ years of Quality Engineering experience in manufacturing , with at least 1-2 years of direct exposure to plastic injection molding processes (required)
Working knowledge of injection molding defects and process behavior (short shots, flash, sink, warp, burn, splay, etc.)
Strong experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and CAPA
Experience supporting PPAP / APQP activities
Proven ability to lead root cause analysis and corrective actions
Proficiency in GD&T and blueprint interpretation
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.)
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
Preferred Skills & Qualifications
Experience in automotive or regulated manufacturing environments
Familiarity with Plex, BuyOne, or similar customer quality systems
Experience with CMM operation (no programming required)
Experience supporting mold trials, validation, and capability studies (Cp/Cpk)
Working knowledge of ISO 9001 with audit participation experience
Exposure to Lean / Continuous Improvement methodologies
Experience collaborating with Quality Technicians on inspection and FAI activities
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Lead root cause analysis and CAPA for molding-related defects and process variation
Develop and maintain PFMEAs, Control Plans, and inspection plans aligned to molding processes
Monitor and analyze SPC data, scrap trends, and process capability (Cp/Cpk)
Support new product and mold launches , including validation and documentation readiness
Act as primary quality contact for customer issues , including PPAP submissions
Coordinate containment and disposition of nonconforming material
Partner with Quality Technicians on inspection activities and First Article Inspection (FAI) support
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards and audit requirements
