Position Summary

In accordance with the established mission, policies, and procedures of 1800Flowers and/or specific instructions from the QA Manager or Supervisor the QA lead is responsible for helping to ensure the facility is in compliance with all Local, State, and Federal laws with regards to a food production environment. The QA Lead will be a key resource for quality and food safety related matters, escalating issues to the QA Supervisor or Manager as needed.

In the absence of the Quality Assurance Lead, all Food Safety and Quality responsibilities will fall to the Quality Assurance Supervisor. The Quality Assurance Supervisor may delegate responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow & enforce all internal Quality and Food Safety requirements. Assure at all times that the facility is in compliance with Federal, State, and GMP standards throughout the company.
  • Perform Quality Assurance Coordinator/Inspector responsibilities as needed for the weekend shift
  • Act as a PCQI as necessary and assist the SQF Practitioner in maintaining the SQF Program.
  • Assist in maintaining the Preventive Controls program.
  • Assist and participate in third party audits as needed.
  • Assist in Training and leading QA Staff. Help provide guidance to QA Technicians and Coordinators.
  • Assist in input and review of finished product specifications.
  • Lead or assist with physical inspections and internal audits
  • Assist in development and implementation of training program for associates for issues related to QA. Basic points include standards, GMP overview, QA policy and regulations.
  • Identify and communicate potential quality and safety risks to the Quality Supervisor and/or Manager
  • Help manage programs or services as requested by the Quality Supervisor or Manager: environmental monitoring, pest control, etc.
  • Assist in performing product trace in accordance with the product traceability procedures as needed.
  • Process monitoring Learn setup and correct operation of all equipment. Learn all product specifications and enforce. Monitor production processes and ensure conformance with all applicable requirements.
  • Assure quality of finished products through testing, visual examination, measurements, tasting, etc. Place a hold on out of spec products and alert supervisor.
  • Lead or assist with investigations, including data analysis and report writing.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of processes within the facility.
  • Assist with other audits as requested by the Quality Supervisor or Manager.

Scheduling Requirements

  • Minimum 36-hour work week; Supporting weekend shift Friday-Sunday or as arranged with the QA Supervisor or Manager.
  • Additional hours may be required based on business needs.
  • Preferably 1 to 2 years of experience in Quality/Food Safety
  • Previous food industry experience required.
  • Basic Computer knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
