Job Title: Manufacturing Test Engineer

Job Description

This hands-on Manufacturing Test Engineer role owns how products are tested and brought into stable production. You will develop test strategies, design and build test systems and fixtures, and ensure new products are fully validated and ready for high-volume manufacturing. Working primarily on the production floor, you will bridge product design, test requirements, and manufacturing flow to create robust, efficient, and repeatable test processes that support aggressive new product and technology development.

Responsibilities

  • Define test requirements based on product design, risk, and intended use.
  • Develop comprehensive test strategies across module, drive, and system levels to ensure complete and efficient coverage.
  • Prepare new products for test readiness prior to production launch, including validation plans and acceptance criteria.
  • Design and build production test systems, test stands, fixtures, and interfaces for electronics and power electronics products.
  • Develop reliable, repeatable test methods suitable for high-volume production environments.
  • Improve existing test systems for stability, repeatability, throughput, and ease of operation.
  • Support and enhance automated test platforms, including LabVIEW- and PLC-based systems.
  • Support the design and build of production lines for new products, ensuring test is integrated from the outset.
  • Define build sequences, station layouts, and test integration points within the manufacturing flow.
  • Align test systems with manufacturing processes to create efficient, repeatable production operations.
  • Drive First Pass Yield (FPY) to 97% or higher through robust test design and continuous improvement.
  • Lead root cause analysis of test and product failures, and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce repeat issues.
  • Ensure test methods accurately validate true product performance and are aligned with product requirements.
  • Ensure test processes and equipment do not constrain production throughput or create bottlenecks.
  • Improve test cycle times while maintaining or improving test coverage and quality.
  • Support consistent test execution across shifts by providing clear procedures, training, and troubleshooting guidance.
  • Understand product and test requirements and translate them into practical test solutions.
  • Define how products should be tested and why failures occur, using data-driven analysis.
  • Troubleshoot failed tests, diagnose electrical and system-level issues, and analyze failure data.
  • Integrate test stations into production lines and verify their impact on flow and capacity.
  • Analyze designs to determine appropriate test strategies and evaluate failure data to refine tests and product robustness.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering and project teams to take products from development into production.
  • Move from concept to execution by building, troubleshooting, and improving real systems in a production environment.
  • Contribute to aggressive new product and technology development by creating test methods and test stands and integrating testing into high-volume production lines.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in test engineering, controls, or electronics manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience designing and building production test systems, stands, fixtures, and interfaces.
  • Proven experience supporting or leading new product introduction (NPI) or product launches into production.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting capability, including diagnosing issues in electronics and power electronics systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect product design, test strategy, and manufacturing processes into a cohesive solution.
  • Experience taking products from development into production in a manufacturing environment.
  • Comfort working primarily on the production floor in a highly hands-on role.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills applied to test systems and product failures.
  • Experience with test systems and automated test environments.
  • Experience with LabVIEW-based test systems.
  • Experience working with electronics and test equipment.
  • Experience with power electronics or related systems.
  • Experience with PLCs and control-system-based test setups.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in electronics, drives, or control systems.
  • Experience with automated test systems such as SPEA, LabVIEW, and PLC-based platforms.
  • Experience integrating test stations into high-volume production lines.
  • Experience defining build sequences, station layouts, and test integration points for new production lines.
  • Familiarity with First Pass Yield (FPY) metrics and methods to achieve 97% FPY.
  • Experience analyzing designs, determining test strategies, and evaluating failure data to improve products and tests.
  • Ability to design and build test stands and fixtures tailored to specific products and technologies.
  • Ability to clearly explain how products should be tested and interpret why failures occur.
  • Experience working closely with cross-functional engineering and project teams.
  • Comfort in a role that focuses on new business and new product launches, with aggressive new product and technology development.

Work Environment

This role is heavily floor-oriented, with more than 60% of your time spent on the production floor in a hands-on capacity. You will build, operate, and refine test stands and fixtures in a live manufacturing environment rather than focusing on desk-based design work. The position involves close collaboration with engineering and project teams, frequent interaction with automated test platforms such as LabVIEW and PLC-based systems, and regular use of electronics and power electronics test equipment. The environment emphasizes high-volume production, integration of test stations into production lines, and continuous improvement of stability, repeatability, and throughput in test and manufacturing processes.
