Job Description

The Test Engineer develops and maintains product performance test plans to ensure they align with customer specifications. This role designs and supports test hardware, equipment, and setups while working closely with engineering teams to deliver efficient, accurate, and repeatable testing processes. The Test Engineer also trains and supports test technicians, analyzes test data, and contributes to continuous improvement of testing technologies and methods.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new product performance test plans and review existing plans to ensure full compliance with customer specifications and requirements.
  • Design, build, and maintain test setups and equipment, including the creation and upkeep of engineering drawings, schematics, and tooling.
  • Develop electrical test circuits and data acquisition systems to support accurate and reliable performance measurements.
  • Provide training to team members on the proper use, setup, and safety procedures of test equipment and systems.
  • Support test technicians with test setup, troubleshooting of issues, and ongoing training within the test environment.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams to identify, diagnose, and resolve product performance issues discovered during testing.
  • Evaluate existing testing technologies and recommend potential improvements, upgrades, or new tools to enhance test capability and efficiency.
  • Support customer visits by conducting facility tours, demonstrating test setups, and participating in test-related discussions.
  • Perform statistical analysis of test data to evaluate product performance, test repeatability, and process capability.
  • Participate in and support test readiness reviews, ensuring that test plans, equipment, and documentation are complete and accurate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of test procedures, setups, results, and any deviations or issues encountered during testing.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support engineering, testing, and quality initiatives.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience performing similar responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with the ability to learn and use specialized software tools.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create engineering drawings and specifications using 2D and/or 3D CAD tools.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to document test procedures and present findings.
  • Foundation in test engineering concepts, including test planning, test equipment selection, and data analysis.
  • Affinity for electrical engineering and testing, with a working knowledge of mechanical design tolerancing principles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with quality conformance testing or work in similar test or inspection environments.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing practices and mechanical design tolerancing.
  • Experience using test and inspection equipment such as oscilloscopes, vibration equipment, vision systems, X-ray systems, and electrical inspection tools including IR meters, resistance meters, and ESD testers.
  • Ability to quickly learn and operate new test equipment and inspection systems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory or environmental compliance topics, such as RCRA training, is a plus.
  • Experience developing or supporting data acquisition systems for test environments.
  • Experience in electrical engineering or closely related discipline is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform statistical analysis of test data and interpret results to drive improvements.

Work Environment

This is an in-person role within a hands-on test laboratory and engineering environment. The Test Engineer works closely with test technicians and engineering staff around electrical and mechanical test equipment, including oscilloscopes, vibration equipment, vision systems, X-ray systems, and various electrical inspection tools such as IR meters, resistance meters, and ESD testers. The work involves frequent interaction with test setups, fixtures, and data acquisition systems, as well as participation in customer visits and facility tours. The environment supports collaboration, continuous improvement of testing processes, and adherence to safety and quality standards

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Clear Lake, SD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
