Quality Control Technician Job Description The Quality Control Technician selects products and prepares samples at defined stages of the production process, then performs tests to verify that each item meets required quality standards. This role sets up and conducts both destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, and finished products to measure performance, durability, and mechanical or chemical characteristics. Time on shift rotates between lab desk work, hands-on testing, and work on the production floor, ensuring continuous quality oversight across all stages. Responsibilities Select products and prepare samples for testing at specified stages of the production process according to established procedures. Test products for a variety of qualities, including dimensions, performance, and mechanical or chemical characteristics, following required standards. Set up and perform destructive tests on materials, parts, or products to evaluate performance, life expectancy, and material characteristics. Set up and perform nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance and material characteristics without causing damage. Rotate throughout the shift between lab desk work, testing activities, and on-the-floor inspections to maintain consistent quality control coverage. Document test methods, measurements, and results accurately and clearly using Microsoft Word and Excel. Use gauges, micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify product dimensions and tolerances. Interpret and work from blueprints to determine required measurements and quality standards. Communicate clearly with the next shift to hand off work, explain test status, and ensure continuity of testing and inspections. Follow all safety procedures and quality standards while working in the lab and on the production floor. Essential Skills Proficient use of gauges and precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately. Experience using Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel, to record and report test data. Hands-on experience in quality control or quality assurance in a production or manufacturing environment. Ability to perform and document both destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products. Strong attention to detail when measuring dimensions, performance, and material characteristics. Ability to rotate between lab, testing area, and production floor and maintain focus and accuracy in each setting. Effective verbal and written communication skills for shift handoffs and documentation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience working in a machine shop or similar industrial environment. Familiarity with laboratory practices and procedures in a quality control setting.
