Job Description:

The Webster EA Toner Plant (W216) Quality Engineer helps maintain the daily operations in the QC lab working with both the Industrial workforce and equipment. They are responsible for data analysis, looking for trends, upkeep of the equipment, non-conforming material investigations and working with product delivery teams.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Helps to maintain the Quality Management System that conforms to ISO-9001 standards and includes internal auditing of processes and procedures.

  • Collaborate with Operations and Process Supervisors on subsequent shifts to exchange key information, such as equipment issues to help prioritize samples, or when samples do not meet specification.

  • First point of contact for quality inspectors to address concerns. Helps with schedule related questions or equipment problems.

  • Responds quickly to non-conforming material when tests are out of spec and confirms QC equipment is working correctly using control charts and references.

  • Ensures all supplemental testing is completed for products that need it.

  • Helps train and guide quality assurance lab personnel, approximately 8 employees. Provides feedback and direction and helps prioritize work. Provides on-going training, guidance, and mentoring to Industrial Work Force.

  • Ensures lab equipment is well maintained and reliable for production measurements.

  • Maintains data driven work processes to demonstrate equipment reliability and control. Provides troubleshooting support when necessary.

  • Follows up on NCMR's (Non-Conforming Material Record) process for both plant produced, and supplier produced materials.

  • Works closely with operations and engineering teams to determine root cause and generate corrective actions to address manufacturing quality issues.

  • Works closely with packaging engineering and suppliers to address supplier quality issues.

  • Interfaces with Product Delivery Teams to receive timely disposition of non-conforming materials.

  • Interfaces with plant operations and production control teams to efficiently segregate on-hold material inventory and re-introduce on-hold materials that have been released for use or rework.

  • Helps to facilitate and monitor PMCs for process changes or new incoming products and works closely with Product Delivery Teams.

  • Helps support investigation of customer complaints.

  • Helps foster a continuous improvement environment, and practices lean manufacturing.

  • Helps to maintain proper document control, ensuring the newest versions of procedures are in place and available.

  • Utilize statistical process control (SPC) tools to assess product and process capabilities.

  • Helps maintain and suggest improvements to the plant Quality Assurance System.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of a BS degree in a technical discipline

  • Minimum of 3 yrs experience in field or related area

  • LSS or DfLSS Greenbelt preferred

  • Demonstrated use of LSS tools in process setting - with knowledge/experience using SPC and Lean Methodology.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Works well in a fast-paced, high-pressure team environment

  • Follows disciplined work processes and has high ethical standards

  • Ability to develop strong relationships with partners and customers

  • Strong problem-solving abilities

  • Good conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to implement and influence new ideas/processes

  • Strong computer literacy - able to learn new systems/applications quickly

  • Manufacturing experience (preferred)

  • Experience with chemical materials or chemical processing (preferred)

  • Knowledge of toner functional properties and toner manufacturing processes (preferred)

  • Xerographic systems understanding (preferred)

  • Able to use protective equipment, including safety shoes, bump cap, and safety glasses.
