POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Control Specialist assists in insuring all activities assumed by the laboratory are conducted in a safe, efficient, organized, and productive manner while providing needed technical support to the Production, Sales, and Exploration teams.
New Hire Orientation & Safety Training are held only ONCE a month, in the San Antonio, TX office. Be prepared for travel and overnight accommodation up to 1-3 days. Accommodations & reimbursements are covered by Martin Marietta for anyone traveling more than 50 miles.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform laboratory testing with the goal of achieving a high degree of productivity while insuring the integrity of results. These projects are to include any District and Division projects including South Texas and Arkansas as needed.
Incorporate Martin Marietta's safety culture, a positive attitude, a dedication to teamwork and a results-oriented mindset.
Log in, test, and report materials from operations, rail terminals and Exploration in a timely and proper manner
Assist District and SW Division plants in quality control and quality issues as needed.
Assist in the training of new plant level QC technicians in daily QC activities with superior quality aggregates a goal.
Assist all District production plants to optimize production without sacrificing quality.
Assist in training and support to the sales and production teams as needed This is to include QC submittals to sales and customers as needed.
Travel to District plants and rail terminals to sample aggregates to insure quality products are be achieved. Come up with resolutions for products are not meeting standard.
Sample materials at customer job sites to ensure they are receiving quality materials.
Respond to customer complaints in a timely matter. Come to resolution for any defective materials sent to customers with the monetary impact of Martin Marietta always in mind. Work with customer to come up with a good resolution for all parties.
Aid Martin Marietta customers in a professional manner.
Develop and maintain a good working relationship with all Martin Marietta teams.
Maintain good housekeeping in the laboratory and its surrounding area.
Ensure the use of proper sampling and testing techniques with the appropriate equipment.
Will also support production needs as needed. i.e. operating heavy equipment, plant labor, and train loading etc.
Must be willing to perform additional duties outside of regular QC day to day job duties to support plant as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- High School diploma or GED required; Technical/Vocational training or equivalent experience
- 1+ years' experience in quality control in an aggregate or construction environment required
- State certified for aggregate field and laboratory testing in GA preferred; ability to obtain state certification required
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proficient in MS Office and computer skills
- Must have basic math skills
- Proactive in safety and works well in a team environment
- Minimal travel required
- Must be able to work 12 hour shifts, possible weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed
- Must be able to read equipment operating manual
- Must be able to complete pre-shift inspection report
- Must be able to read and interpret gauges
- Possess basic mathematical aptitude to complete daily reports
- Must be able to wear all required safety equipment
- Must be able to communicate over CB radio or with hand signals and warning sounds, with coworkers regarding movement of vehicles and mobile equipment
- Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner
- Must be service oriented with proven ability to work in a TEAM environment
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to climb on and off equipment
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, kneel
- Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
- Must work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noisy conditions
- Must be able to work at various heights
WORKING CONDITIONS
Larger equipment is typically air conditioned. There will be times when outside assignments may require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry and dusty. Must be able to work in areas where noise levels are up to 85 dbs.
