Surestaff is hiring for a Quality Assurance Supervisor for a packaging company in Batavia, IL. The objectives of this role include contributing to the continued success and growth of the company as a go-to leader within the Quality Assurance Department. This entails auditing the work of others, providing training, delegating responsibilities, and liaising with other departments. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting manufacturing operations in the areas of product quality and reliability while maintaining Quality Assurance documentation and files. The ideal candidate is a leader in using quality techniques to track, analyze, and report on materials, processes, and products to ensure they meet the highest quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements. - Supervise, train, and develop QA Technicians. Manage time/attendance, coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective actions.
- Develop and communicate daily work plans to ensure 100% quality coverage during production operations.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as primary contact for Quality issues, making timely “Go/No Go” decisions of product quality.
- Conduct start-up approvals, in-process inspections, and final release verifications to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Establish and document flexographic process control data and maintain specification records.
- Oversee organization of the QA lab and Quarantine area.
- Ensure compliance with SQF food Safety Code, GMPs, HACCP principles, and internal SOPs.
- Support creation, revision, and control of Quality Assurance documents, including SOPs, work instructions, test methods, and inspection records.
- Maintain and log first-run samples, color standards, and family color documentation.
- Support CAPA/SCAR system, ensuring timely investigation, corrective action, and effectiveness verification.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of job approval checklists, QA checklists, and daily audits.
- Support root cause investigations, risk assessments, and implementation of preventative measures.
- Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics, driving improvements to reduce nonconformances and increase efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Purchasing) to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
- Ensure that all company food safety and quality assurance procedures are always followed. Escalate any issues/concerns to management.
- Other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing quality role, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, coach, schedule, and develop a team.
- Demonstrated experience conducting inspections, audits, start-up approvals, and in-process quality checks in a production environment.
- Proficiency in the use of measurement tools, test equipment, and inspection methods (i.e., attribute, variable, and functional testing).
- Ability to support and lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving tools (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to document findings clearly and communicate quality decisions (go/no-go”) in real time.
- Professional proficiency in verbal and written English with the ability to communicate effectively to diverse individuals across departments.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and time-management skills; able to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn specialized software.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the facility for extended periods; ability to lift as required.
- Excellent color perception and ability to visually inspect printed materials with or without corrective lenses.
- Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Enthusiasm for embracing the company values that focus on developing and empowering team members to create valued, trusted, and lasting relationships with both customers and suppliers.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly preferred.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Working knowledge of SQF, GMP, HACCP, and other applicable food safety or regulatory standards strongly preferred.
- Experience in flexible packaging, printing, or another regulated manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of flexographic printing processes, color standards, and print-related quality requirements.
- Prior experience with ERP systems, ideally EPS Radius.
