Position Summary
The Supplier Quality Technician is responsible for supporting production by managing supplier-related quality issues, documenting supplier nonconformances, and performing targeted incoming inspections for materials identified as high risk. This role works closely with Production, Parts, Engineering, and the Quality Department to ensure supplier defects are properly documented, investigated, and addressed.
The Supplier Quality Technician plays a key role in identifying supplier-related quality concerns, supporting containment activities on the production floor, and assisting with investigations to reduce recurring supplier issues.
Key Responsibilities
Supplier Quality Issue Management
Respond to supplier-related quality issues identified on the production floor.
Assist production personnel in identifying and documenting defective or nonconforming materials.
Support containment activities including tagging, segregation, and documentation of defective materials.
Ensure supplier-related issues are clearly documented and communicated internally.
Nonconformance Documentation
Log and document supplier nonconformances (NCMRs) within EHS Insight .
Record accurate information including: Supplier name
Part number
Truck/unit number when applicable
Description of defect
Photographs and supporting documentation.
Incoming Inspection
Perform incoming inspections on materials identified by the Quality Department as requiring verification based on supplier performance or risk.
Record inspection results and communicate findings to Quality leadership.
Maintain incoming inspection records and documentation.
Supplier Issue Investigation
Assist in investigations of supplier-related quality concerns.
Support root cause analysis efforts related to recurring supplier defects.
Work with internal departments to determine containment and corrective actions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with: Production
Parts / Supply Chain
Engineering
Quality Department
to resolve supplier quality issues and prevent recurrence.
Data Tracking and Reporting
Assist with tracking supplier quality trends and recurring issues.
Maintain accurate records to support supplier performance analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education / Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Associate degree or technical training in manufacturing, quality, or related field preferred.
Previous experience in manufacturing, inspection, or quality assurance preferred.
Knowledge / Skills
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and inspection methods.
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
Ability to read part numbers, work orders, and basic technical documentation.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Experience with quality tracking systems or databases such as EHS Insight is preferred but not required.
Work Environment
This role operates primarily within a manufacturing environment and may involve working on the production floor, in warehouse areas, or near moving equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when required.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds .
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the production environment for extended periods of time.
Ability to visually inspect components and materials
Travel Requirements
This position may require up to 10% travel , including occasional visits to supplier facilities or offsite locations to assist with quality investigations, inspections, or supplier-related quality initiatives.
