JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an entry-level Functional Safety Engineer to ensure the safety and reliability of our autonomous robotic vehicles. The role involves identification of hazards and risks using Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), supporting definition of requirements, and implementing measures throughout the product development lifecycle. The Functional Safety Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into the design, development, verification, and validation of our technologies, adhering to industry standards and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Promote a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organization by fostering an environment where safety is prioritized and integrated into daily operations.

Contribute to the development of functional safety concepts and requirements for autonomous vehicle control systems.

Good understanding of Functional Safety lifecycles in general.

Conduct safety analysis, including STPA, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).

Collaborate with hardware and software engineering teams to ensure safety requirements are allocated to the design and development process.

Review safety verification and validation activities, including safety testing and simulation.

Ensure compliance with internal safety processes and workflows, which are loosely based on a mixture of relevant safety standards (e.g., ISO 25119, ISO 13849, IEC 61508) and regulatory requirements.

Prepare and maintain safety documentation, including safety plans, safety cases, and safety reports.

Participate in safety audits and assessments, both internal and external.

Contribute to technical guidance and support to project teams on functional safety matters.

Stay updated with the latest advancements in functional safety and autonomous vehicle technologies.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Science, or a related field.

Relevant certifications such as Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE), Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP), Automotive Functional Safety Professional (AFSP), Functional Safety Engineer or similar credentials are highly preferred

Experience:

0-3 years of experience in functional safety engineering, preferably in industries such as robotics, automotive, earth-moving or mining machinery, or agricultural equipment.

Specific experience with functional safety using STPA.
