Quality Control Technician - 2nd Shift

The QC Technician will assist with all processes throughout the lumber mill and perform multiple audits to ensure the product meets the site's specifications. Duties include:

  • Maintain an average grade performance according to Plant specifications using optimizers.
  • Develop and improve management systems that optimize production and grading output.
  • Ensure regular monitoring and tracking of machine center performance.
  • Conduct regular checks to enhance grade accuracy and output.
  • Follow the trim chart instructions to maximize lumber value.
  • Offer support and training to operations.
  • Maintain and enhance Westervelt Lumber quality standards daily.
  • Complete multiple audits to verify our processes and ensure the products meet our site specifications.
  • Inspect finished lumber from the planermill for defects and proper grading.
  • Inspect green lumber produced in our sawmill for size specifications and manufacturing defects.
  • Identify quality issues throughout the plant, document findings, and communicate with responsible associates to implement corrective actions.
  • Perform different sawmill, planermill, and yard quality audits safely, accurately, and professionally.
  • Perform regular clean-up in your assigned areas as needed.
  • Assist with calibrating MSR equipment throughout the shift.
  • Help set up moisture-measuring equipment at the start of each shift.
  • Ability to conduct and perform MSR lumber testing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Sawmill experience preferred.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, or kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders.
  • Able to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Ability to work from elevated positions using required safety gear and procedures.
