Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Microbiologist with hands-on experience in GMP-regulated environments to support water system monitoring, environmental monitoring, and microbiological testing. This role is essential to ensuring cleanroom and utility compliance through routine sampling, microbial testing, and lab support activities. Ideal candidates will bring strong attention to detail, knowledge of sterile manufacturing practices, and a commitment to quality and data integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
Water System Monitoring:
- Collect water and clean steam samples from facility systems.
- Perform microbiological testing on facility and laboratory water purification system samples.
- Review data in compliance with GMP standards.
- Conduct analytical testing on cleaning validation and in-process facility samples.
- Participate in the qualification and release of microbiological media.
- Initiate and follow up on excursions that exceed alert or action limits by procedures.
- Contribute to the generation and maintenance of monthly trend reports.
Environmental Monitoring (EM):
- Perform environmental monitoring according to sterile operations schedules, including unmanned cleanroom EM.
- Conduct plate readings and interpret microbial growth results from environmental monitoring samples.
Laboratory Support:
- Log incoming media and reagents and perform growth promotion testing.
- Provide microbiological support for validation activities, including validation maintenance.
- Coordinate third-party testing, including preparing documentation, shipping samples, tracking, and archiving results using LabWare.
- Support microbial identification workflows: perform subculturing, Gram stains (where applicable), ensure chain of custody, review vendor reports, and coordinate with external vendors.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Experience working in a Quality Control laboratory or sterile manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- A client-focused mindset with a dedication to providing high-quality service
- Proven ability to thrive in both independent and collaborative team settings
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Biology, Microbiology, or a related field
- OR Associates degree with a minimum of 1 year of microbiology experience in the pharmaceutical industry
- Ability to work independently, demonstrate self-motivation, and adapt in a dynamic environment
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed to support business operations
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
