DSHS FTAA Quality Control Specialist

Would you like to use your experience interacting with Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) clients, customers, and stakeholders? This is an exciting opportunity to build a system that evaluates, changes, and improves programs by ensuring the voices of clients are heard by leadership and decision-makers. We are hiring two on-call Quality Control Specialists, one of whom must be bilingual in Spanish and English. Join our team and help ensure top-quality standards! These project-based positions work less than 20 hours per week and are not available to current full-time state employees. Our team is often busy, but available hours may vary depending on the number of active projects.

In these roles, as a Quality Control Specialist or Quality Control Specialist -Dual Language (Spanish), you will be responsible for obtaining detailed information about DSHS clients in order to facilitate multiple survey projects, such as the DSHS Client Survey . This survey provides data-driven decision support to inform the client care and services. You will use your knowledge of public assistance program structure and procedures, information sources, and investigative interviewing to obtain information on client experiences and compile data necessary for survey administration and analysis from various sources, including client records, DSHS service databases, and automated computer systems, and will generate data tables and summary information.

Your work will aid DSHS in making improvements in client servic es. You will have the chance to collaborate and build working relationships with many internal and external stakeholders, staff, and other professionals.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Conduct survey interviews with clients and other contacts about their experiences receiving social and health services.
  • Gain a solid understanding of active survey projects and the fundamentals of research interviewing.
  • Identify facts needed to complete client surveys. Analyze and evaluate case records in order to obtain accurate, detailed case information.
  • Compare case records and electronic data from various programs within DSHS to obtain demographic data about clients.
  • Resolve discrepancies by researching additional information using internet search engines, reverse directories, and employment history records.
  • Generate data tables to summarize findings using Excel.
  • Collaborate with the survey team to identify and resolve data discrepancies.
  • Participate in team meetings, identify issues with research materials or procedures, contribute ideas to problem-solving discussions.
  • Identify and report situations requiring immediate intervention, such as reports of potential abuse.
  • Provide information about program contacts and available services.

Who should apply?

Professionals with:
  • A Bachelor's degree and two years of experience working in a Community Services Office, Welfare Office, or Public Assistance Office; At least one year of this experience must have been obtained within the State of Washington; Additional qualifying education/experience may be substituted, year for year for education.
  • Work experience using DSHS or human service data systems.
  • Ability to use or learn Computer Assisted Telephone Interview systems.
In addition to the requirements above the dual language position requires :
  • Individuals who are bilingual in English & Spanish.
  • The dual language position requires certification in Cluster 1 & 2 by the Language Testing and Certification Unit for Spanish.
  • The selected candidate will be given a conditional job offer and 60 days to obtain cluster 2 certification for dual language Spanish.
  • This opportunity may be entitled to basic salary plus 5% increase for dual language.

Note:

Onboarding and Training for these positions take place in Olympia, WA, which will require 4-5 days onsite to complete. After that the majority of the job can be done remotely.
