Quality Control Specialist
Job Description

The Quality Control Specialist is responsible for auditing finished goods and the manufacturing facility, maintaining databases, troubleshooting, and overseeing product disposition. This role includes product hold/release authority, quality inspections, investigations, and reporting issues related to Food Safety and Quality. Employees will receive cross-training in various QC functions to provide backup support as needed. The position involves inspecting finished goods, including Medical Foods, Dietary supplements, and other high-profile contract customer products.

Responsibilities

  • Enter data into company databases.
  • Perform inspections of equipment, products, and production lines.
  • Ensure conformance to GMP guidelines and company policies/procedures.
  • Inspect and audit facilities, manufacturing equipment, and products as required.
  • Identify non-conforming conditions and products related to food safety and quality.
  • Place products or materials on hold that do not conform to specifications.
  • Initiate investigations into causes of material or product non-conformance.
  • Investigate customer complaints with guidance from a Supervisor.
  • Perform internal audits based on SQF guidelines.
  • Make suggestions to improve safety, food safety, and quality.
  • Suggest ways to increase efficiency and cost savings within the department.
  • Gather sample products as required.
  • Provide training to other employees as directed.
Essential Skills
  • 1+ years of quality control experience in the food/beverage industry.
  • Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, SQF, FDA regulations for foods and beverages, and internal auditing.
  • Proficiency in CAPA investigations and training personnel.
  • Ability to complete a skills assessment test including basic math, decimal math, English, color, and comprehension.
  • Good computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English; Spanish bilingual is a huge plus.

Work Environment

The role is based in a temperature-controlled manufacturing plant, requiring walking throughout the plant all day. Available shifts include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts with mandatory overtime, including Saturdays. The position operates on a rotating Saturday schedule, working every other Saturday, especially during the busy season when production runs on Saturdays.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
