We are currently seeking the following Quality Control Supervisor - Special Process at our Waynesboro, GA siteProject:Baton Rouge, La., April 8, 2008 – The Shaw Group Inc. (NYSE: SGR) announced today that the Nuclear Division of its Power Group and Westinghouse Electric Company, its AP1000™ nuclear power plant consortium partner, have been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by Georgia Power Company, a subsidiary of Southern Company (NYSE: SO), for two Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear power units and related facilities. The AP1000 units each have an electric generating capacity of 1,100 megawatts and would be constructed at the existing Vogtle Electric Generating Plant site near Augusta, Ga. Position Description:Responsible for performing Quality Assurance activities and implementing QA programs under the direction of a QC Manager to oversee and monitor progress and success during the construction of a major Nuclear Power Plant. Supervises a staff of QC Inspectors and coordinates with the Construction organization for QC personnel inspections and construction surveillances as necessary to verify performance of construction activities to the requisite codes, standards, specifications and drawings. Ensures through communications with the QC Manager that the project is staffed with an adequate team of qualified inspection and test personnel. Develops, maintains, and implements QA/QC programs to meet assigned project requirements. Ensures the effective implementation of the quality program in the area of assigned responsibility and ensures that the appropriate materials and equipment are available for inspection and test. Ensures that the assigned inspection team is provided the requisite project specific indoctrination and training and monitors effectiveness to assess the need for additional or refresher trainings. Reviews and approves project specific plans and procedures to ensure that the appropriate elements of the Quality Program have been addressed. Determines the extent and applicability of the quality program to the Special Process (e.g., Welding, Coating) functional areas and establishes and maintains client relationships to assure free communication of information and reasonable resolution of quality problems so that quality goals are attained with minimal rework and repair. Provides periodic reports to the Project QC Manager and the Project Quality Director regarding the effectiveness of the quality program. Must Have Skills:This position requires, as a minimum, commensurate education and experience to allow certification as a Level III Inspector in accordance with NQA-1 and the Shaw Corporate Quality Assurance Program (i.e., 1. Four-year college graduation, plus five years of related experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities, and with at least two years of this experience associated with nuclear facilities; or 2. Completion of college-level work leading to an Associate Degree and seven years of related experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities, and with at least two years of this experience associated with nuclear facilities; or 3. High School Graduation/GED equivalent, plus 10 years of related experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities or High School Graduation/GED equivalent, plus 8 years of experience in equivalent inspection, examination, or testing activities, with at least two years as QC Inspector Level II and at least two years associated with nuclear facilities; or 4. Six years of satisfactory performance as a QC Inspector Level II in the corresponding inspection, examination, or testing activities). Additionally, this position requires knowledge and understanding of 10 CFR Part 50, Appendix B QA Requirements and of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Standard NQA-1 and other Codes and Standards associated with new nuclear plant design . Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential as is experience in interacting and developing and maintaining positive relationships with Client personnel and external regulators such as the Nuclear Regulatory Commission..Nice to Have Skills:Bachelors degree. Recent experience in the construction or modification of Nuclear Facilities and active QC certifications in the related discipline are considered a plus. Experience in managing and/or supervising a team of QA/QC professionals involved in nuclear construction.General information:Position is full time, salaried, exempt and is located at Shaw's Waynesboro, GA site.
