This position supervises the daily operations of the Sampling Section of the Wastewater Management Division.The Wastewater Management Division of Public Worksbuilds, operates and maintains Denver's sanitary sewer system and storm drainage system. The Division maintains more than 1,500 miles of sanitary sewers and 550 miles of storm drainage facilities. Job Responsibilities: Supervises the sampling and flow gauging of wastewater discharges for sewer use fees and discharge control.Ensures the department's compliance with federal and state regulations and requirements.Maintains the inventory of sampling supplies and monitors the maintenance of all sampling equipment.Implements safety standards and develops procedures to ensure compliance. Directs flow monitoring and dye testing for the Planning Department.Supervise the sampling and flow metering for the Pre-treatment Section which includes the transporting of hazardous and toxic wastes to various laboratories.Develops or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures and determines work priorities.Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines standards for problem resolution.Uses the computer to accomplish a majority of the work.Develops the performance enhancement plan, documents performance, provides performance feedback, and formally evaluates the work of employees.Responds to formal and informal employee grievances and prepares written response.Documents causes for disciplinary action and initiates letters of reprimand and formal recommendations for disciplinary action.Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments.Assists in the development of the section's budget. Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above.Qualifications: Education Requirement: Graduation from high school or possession of GED Certificate required.Experience Requirement: Three years of experience in wastewater operations, including exposure to and knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, procedures, and standards.Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional post high school education may be substituted for one year of the minimum experience requirement on a year for year basis.Licensure and/or Certification:Completion of a Career Service Authority supervisory training course prior to completion of the probationary period.Additional Information: Information provided on the application / resume is used to determine if a candidate meets minimum qualifications.
