Description:
This position will be responsible for devising strategies and implementing policies, initiatives and recommendations to advance the Association's federal regulatory and consumer objectives. The qualified candidate will act as a liaison to clubs on federal regulatory issues and initiatives; facilitate business line involvement in federal legislative or regulatory initiatives; advocate the Association's positions where appropriate before federal agencies, officials and industry stakeholders; and analyze legislative and regulatory proposals for impact on Association policies and/or business line activities. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Communicates AAA's priorities (policies, goals, objectives) to federal regulatory agencies through the filing of official comments to rulemakings, meetings with high level federal officials, and key congressional oversight committees, as appropriate. 2. Analyzes federal consumer legislation and regulatory proposals to determine impact on the association, clubs and members and alerts senior management of potential opportunities or threats to the Association that require response. 3. Advises AAA clubs and AAA National Office of federal regulatory activities including drafting internal and external communications (Hotsheet, Interchange, etc.); writes issue summaries and status reports for high level association review; and makes presentations before the Public Affairs Committee and internal conferences. 4. Represents AAA at key federal regulatory and stakeholder group meetings where consumer and/or regulatory issues of interest to the association are addressed. 5. Manages association priority initiatives as assigned. 6. Facilitates AAA club, National Office business line, Public Affairs Committee and Board interaction with high-level federal officials.( 7. Support state-level activities related to AAA's automotive consumer legislative and regulatory priorities, including legislative tracking, development of advocacy materials and assisting clubs in their activities. 8. Responds directly to inquiries from AAA club and AAA National Office staff at all levels, as well as members. 9. Networks with external organizations and coalitions to advance the Association's regulatory and consumer priorities. Job Requirements : Requirements include a Bachelor's degree; five years of experience working with Congress, a federal agency or related capacity at another association or business; legislative and issue tracking skills; basic skills in standard PC applications; proven leadership and negotiation skills; the ability to manage multiple complex issues at one time; and the ability to work collaboratively at all levels. A background in energy or economics is preferred.
